Sermon Notes

God is here whether you feel Him or not. He is not a feeling. He is a knowing. Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 11 is for all who labor and are heavy laden: come to Me, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke. Let Me teach you. There is a better way to live than the struggle everyone else calls normal. He did not come to put a bandage on your life. He came to set you free.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28–29, NLT)

1. Rest Is Found in Seeking First

Seeking first the kingdom is not the same thing as showing up on Sunday. It means staying obedient. The promise attached to that obedience is not merely heaven later. It is this: everything you need will be added. That is rest. You do not have to force your life into place. Teachers, business owners, doctors, lawyers, people in the medical field—the church needs you outside these walls. You are not there only to make a paycheck. You are there to bring influence. You are already provided for.

2. Providing for Yourself Is Pride

This was not the first-service message. The word here was to get free of the rat race. Pride says, “I have to make it happen. I have to work this job because it is comfortable.” Humility says, “God, You make it happen. I will wait on You. Where do You need me?” Security is not in the world’s systems. Rest is found in a humble, low, surrendered heart that says, “Not my will, but Yours.” I do not have it figured out. That is the point.

3. Just Because It Looks Good Does Not Mean It Is God

The world is fading. What it pursues does not come from the Father. The fruit in the garden looked desirable. It was not rotting. It looked good. Good and God are not the same thing. God is drawing people away from false security so they will find their security in Him. If He healed you, turned you around, put peace in your heart, rescued your children, or fixed your marriage, that is where your help came from. Rejoice there. Do not go back to building a life that only looks successful.

4. A New Season Requires New Consecration

What was fine back then is not enough for what is next. There are places He wants to take you and things He wants to show you that you will not see unless you shift. Draw a line in the sand. Change what you are pursuing. Do not resist the transformation. He is a good Father. He does not take away in order to leave you empty. He wants to add. Your greatest season is ahead if you will step into His will and into His rest.

Come to Him. Let Him teach you.
Seek first. Stop forcing. Step into rest.

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
